AMANI's Mo'olelo (story):
Born in Barbados, AMANI (meaning peaceful) grew up in a large family with 6 brothers and sisters. Adventurous, curious, and dedicated to helping people, Amani was accepted into the prestigious medical school and looking forward to a position at Ross University School of Medicine in Barbados. Life took an unexpected turn and Amani found herself in a dangerous relationship. Using all her knowledge and courage, she successfully left that relationship and went back to school to study criminal justice in an effort to become an advocate for abused women.
A little about the Artist
Judith Fox Goldstein
Created by Hawai'i mixed-media Artist, Judith Fox-Goldstein, each journal is a reproduction of the artist's original painting. A composition of watercolor pencils, paint and embellishments including beads, jewels, feathers and natural fibers, each journal is distinctively unique.
"An act of love and detail" expressing the handwork, painting, expressions and soul of the powerful women characters Judith creates. Each hand-embellished journal is accompanied by a mo'olelo (story) describing the woman's journey towards empowerment.
Many of the subjects Judith creates come from her diverse experiences throughout her life in Hawaii. The women are representative of people she has known or admired throughout her life.
